rePlace is a mixed media workshop for people who are interested in representing places of special significance and meaning through an exploration of creative practice with reusable materials. You are invited to join artists Jeanne Dodds and Joan Green to understand more about placemaking on Whidbey Island. Together, we can foster sustainability and connection by slowing down and working with materials to visualize the place we care about and call home. Your art piece will include 2D and 3D materials, and you’re welcome to take home your finished work or any work in progress.
This is a workshop where all levels of experience are welcomed and teens and adults ages 16 and up are invited to join. All materials will be provided, but you can bring a special, small 2D or 3D object to include in your project (such as papers, photos, small natural or handmade items etc.) that speak to your connection to the special place you would like to represent.
We will begin with a short tour of Jeanne's current exhibit, Kinship, in the Hub Gallery, and then gather in the workshop space for hands-on art making and a chance to reflect and share to close out the class. We will emphasize process over product, and anticipate this experience will be a starting point for further creativity and reflection.
Thanks to rePurpose Whidbey for providing workshop materials and to Goosefoot for providing the workshop space in connection with the Kinship exhibition.
